Indianapolis, Ind. (June 2010) – Biosound Esaote announced recently that it has extended its distributor agreement with United Medical Instruments (UMI) into a second year. UMI, a provider of new and high quality pre-owned ultrasound systems, serves as Biosound's exclusive ultrasound vendor in the Phlebology/Vein Clinic market.
"Biosound is pleased to renew our distributor agreement with United Medical Instruments," said Claudio Bertolini, president of Biosound Esaote. "UMI's established presence in the Phlebology market has proven to be an excellent platform for our MyLab ultrasound products and we appreciate their continued commitment our partnership."
UMI offers Biosound's MyLab®25Gold and MyLab®Five ultrasound systems. Both systems provide excellent image quality and high performance in compact and portable packages. The MyLab ultrasound platform offers a common user interface, shared probes and full digital workflow capability.
Ultrasound has become an increasingly important tool in the Phlebology market when evaluating a broad spectrum of disorders including varicose veins, chronic venous insufficiency, venous leg ulcers, congenital venous abnormalities, venous thromboembolism and other disorders of venous origin. Ultrasound technology can help to asses the valvular function and patency of deep veins, thereby providing important information in determining a treatment path.
Mansoor Ghanavati, President of United Medical Instruments and board member of the American College of Phlebology Foundation, attributes much of the market's growth to the Foundation's funding of research, education and communication initiatives. Under the leadership of Ghanavati, UMI has garnered a 10-year presence and a large customer base in the Phlebology/Vein Disease market.
"Biosound's MyLab®Five is a revolutionary concept in ultrasound technology," Ghanavati said. "Weighing less than 20 pounds, this powerful portable ultrasound system delivers premium console performance. MyLab®Five's modular architecture and advanced multi-frequency transducers is perfectly suited for all practitioners in the vein disease market. I expect Biosound products will help UMI's growth and expansion in this market."
